Bitlis Eren University (BEÜ) — known in Turkish as Bitlis Eren Üniversitesi — is a public university in the city of Bitlis, in southeastern Turkey, near Lake Van and the famous Nemrut volcanic crater lake. Founded in 2007, the university is one of the smaller regional public universities in eastern Turkey.
Language of instruction: Predominantly Turkish across all programs. International students typically complete TÖMER Turkish preparation before joining their main degree.
Structure: BEÜ operates 5 faculties, multiple research and applied centres, and offers a range of masters and doctoral programs. It has student-exchange agreements with several European universities under the Erasmus framework.
Notable faculties and programs:
Admission: BEÜ accepts YÖS and high-school diplomas with adequate GPA. SAT acceptance is limited — verify directly. Apply at obs.beu.edu.tr.
Tuition (international students): Approximately $300–800 per year for most undergraduate programs — among the lowest in Turkey.
Scholarships: Türkiye Bursları (full government scholarship) is the main pathway for fully funded international study.
Living in Bitlis: Bitlis is a small mountain city at 1,500 m altitude in southeastern Turkey, with cold snowy winters, traditional Kurdish-Turkish regional culture, and very low cost of living — student rent typically $80–150/month. The nearby Lake Van, Turkey's largest lake, offers dramatic scenery and is an hour away. Best suited to students who appreciate a remote eastern Anatolian setting.
Recognition: Diplomas are accredited by Turkey's YÖK and recognised across the Arab world. Best suited to students with clear interests in Islamic sciences, engineering, or media (radio/TV/cinema) who prioritise extremely low cost.
Verify whether SAT is currently accepted for your chosen program and dormitory availability directly with the university before applying.
